PTV apologizes after identifying Emilio Aguinaldo as Andres Bonifacio
State-run PTV on Friday apologized after it wrongly identified Emilio Aguinaldo, the Philippines’ first president, as revolutionary leader Andres Bonifacio.
Aguinaldo’s photo was mistakenly used in a feature intended for Bonifacio during PTV’s special coverage of the 122nd Philippine Independence Day celebration on Friday.

“The said error was already corrected and the revised version will be uploaded in the network's social media pages,” PTV said.
“We sincerely apologize for this mistake. Rest assured that under the new PTV management, necessary training and skills development will be initiated to avoid similar inaccuracies.”
Bonifacio, leader of the resistance movement Katipunan during the Spanish colonial rule, was executed on May 10, 1897 at the age of 33 after a military court found him and his brother guilty of treason.
Aguinaldo was president from January 1899 until his capture by American forces in March 1901. He later swore allegiance to the United States, which colonized the Philippines after Spain.
