‘Disiplina Muna’ campaign launched within PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday launched the "Disiplina Muna" campaign which aims to strengthen the culture of discipline among police officers in the country.

"Alam niyo sa atin naman sa PNP, we already have our internal cleansing which is actually ang main talaga na tinitira natin is 'yung disiplina ng kapulisan. So that's why there is internal cleansing..." PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said at a press briefing.

"Mayroon tayong mga hinuhuli na mga pulis who are not doing good but we launched it kanina because this is a nationwide campaign of government headed by the DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) pero 'yung sa PNP, not much adjustment will be made kasi dati naman mayroon and expected dahil armed component tayo ng gobyerno..." he added.

"Ang PNP is expected na dapat disiplinado kami," Gamboa said.

The launch came following the negative issues faced by the PNP since the community quarantine across the country had started. Issues of abuse of power as well as slays allegedly perpetrated by cops tainted the image of the police force.

Gamboa had said the PNP is doing its best so that mistakes committed by cops will not happen again.

The said campaign is a project of the DILG which seeks to include citizens in the government’s push for progress by enlisting their support in the road clearing operations, disaster preparedness and resilience efforts, enforcement of the anti-smoking law, liquor ban, ease of doing business act, tourist spots cleanup and anti-illegal drugs campaign.

The agency had also launched the campaign in various cities nationwide. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
