Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David will temporarily serve as acting president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Catholic Media Network Corporation President Father Francis Lucas made the announcement on Friday, according to a Dobol B sa News TV report.

David will take the position as CBCP President and Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles, is still recovering from a stroke.

In an interview, Fr. Lucas said Archbishop Valles was doing well.

David was CBCP vice president before being appointed as acting president.

David is known as a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, particularly of the administration's "bloody" anti-drugs campaign.  — DVM, GMA News
