ABS-CBN workers, supporters honk horns during multi-city motorcade

Employees and supporters of ABS-CBN on Saturday afternoon conducted a motorcade and noise barrage in Makati City before heading to the network's headquarters in Quezon City, as they continued to condemn the non-renewal of the company's franchise.

According to Jhomer Apresto's report on Super Radyo dzBB, the motorcade was composed of two groups coming from Manila and Makati.

To show their support, cars were seen with ribbons in ABS-CBN's colors, with one vehicle even flying the Philippine flag.

The group also carried signs with words of support for ABS-CBN and press freedom.

On May 5,  ABS-CBN went off air after it was issued a cease and desist order by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for its lack of franchise.

This despite the NTC earlier saying it would give the network a provisional license that would allow ABS-CBN to continue its operations.

Though the bills seeking a franchise renewal for the network have been pending since 2014, the House only started its deliberations on the bills on March 10, 2020. The House panel handling the issue eventually voted to deny the network's franchise renewal application. -Joahna Lei Casilao/MDM, GMA News
