Duterte calls for 'pandemic-resilient' PNP

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday called for a “pandemic-resilient” Philippine National Police (PNP) amid the continued rise in COVID-19 cases among its personnel.

The PNP on Wednesday tallied 33 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 2,347. Total recoveries climbed to 1,384 while the death toll remained at 11.

As of 6 p.m. of August 5, there were 2,354 suspected COVID-19 cases and 886 probable cases within the PNP.

“I ask you to ensure that the PNP will remain pandemic-resilient by adopting protective protocols in the new normal,” Duterte said his video message for the 119th Police Service Anniversary.

Duterte thanked the policemen for their service to the nation amid the public health crisis.

“Be assured of our nation’s gratitude for your significant contributions to our campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and terrorism. I likewise extend our appreciation for your selfless service as frontliners in our fight against COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Duterte also urged them to build on the gains of their achievements and “continue to serve with honor and justice.”
