155 criminal complaints filed vs barangay chairs over cash aid anomalies
A total of 155 criminal complaints were filed with the Office of the Ombudsman against barangay captains allegedly involved in the anomalous handling of funds for the social amelioration program, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Monday.
In a televised briefing at the Presidential Guest House in Davao City, Año said he expected 50 barangay captains to be preventively suspended as the Ombudsman investigated their cases.
“Ako po ay nakipag-ugnayan kay Ombudsman Samuel Martires at nai-submit na po namin itong mga kasong ito at within the week ay inaasahan namin na initially ay 50 barangay captain ang magkakaroon ng preventive suspension,” he said.
Of the 50 barangay captains, 13 were from Metro Manila, 13 were from Region 1, 10 were from Region 2, three were from Region 3, and 11 were from Region 4-A.
“Ang mga iba pa ay susunod pa po sa patuloy na pag-iimbestiga ng ating Ombudsman,” Año said.
