DOJ orders probe into own website's hacking

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday said it will launch an investigation to determine who hacked its website on Wednesday that caused visitors to be redirected to the website of a popular local theme park. Radio dzBB reported Thursday that Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez has tasked National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Nestor Mantaring to look into the hacking incident. On Wednesday, online visitors attempting to access the DOJ website were instead redirected to the website of Enchanted Kingdom, a theme park located in Santa Rosa, Laguna. Also hacked was the Information Technology and Electronic Commerce Council's (ITECC) website, which similarly redirects viewers to the theme park's website. Gonzalez, however, assured that the hack did not leave any negative effect on their website but admitted that the incident poses a danger on national security. The Justice Secretary added that if people can easily gain access to the DOJ website, websites of other government agencies may also be at risk of being taken over. For his part, Senior Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome, newly appointed spokesman of the Philippine National Police, said they will also launch their own investigation into the incident. The DOJ website - which contains public documents including legal opinions, primers, and details on special projects being undertaken by the department - has already been brought back to normal. ITECC's website, however, remains unrestored as of posting time. - GMANews.TV
