DFA condoles with Trump on his brother's passing

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday sent a message of sympathy to US President Donald Trump and his sister-in-law on the passing of his younger brother Robert.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs extends its heartfelt sympathies to Ms. Anne Marie Pallan and US President Donald J. Trump, on the passing of the President's younger brother Robert Trump," the DFA said in a tweet.

Robert, 71, died in New York City on Saturday night, a day after President Trump visited him at the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

"It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight. He was not just my brother, he was my best friend," Trump said.

"He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace," he added.

The cause of death was not revealed. Trump told reporters on Friday that his brother was "having a hard time" with an undisclosed illness. A person familiar with the situation said the brother had been on blood thinners, according to a Reuters report.
