Illegal vendors given until Friday to vacate Taft Avenue

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will forcibly move out illegal vendors from Taft Avenue in Pasay City if they won’t leave the area after Friday. MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando said during a press conference on Monday that Pasay City Mayor Peewee Trinidad requested that the area be cleared out of illegal vendors. “We are calling on the sidewalk vendors to voluntarily vacate the sidewalks if they don't want their goods to be confiscated by the SCOG (Sidewalk Clearing Operation Group), and prevent any untoward incident," said Fernando. The MMDA chairman also appealed to other illegal vendors in Metro Manila to stop using sidewalks as selling areas. He said the MMDA would not stop its campaign of clearing sidewalks of illegal vendors and other obstructions. Fernando likewise encouraged illegal vendors especially those who reached second year college to apply at the MMDA as traffic enforcers. - GMANews.TV
