CA suspends deliberation of Housing chief Del Rosario's appointment again

The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday once again suspended its deliberation of Eduardo Del Rosario's appointment as Secretary of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) due to lack of material time.

Del Rosario's appointment has been met with a mix of opposition and support from Maranaos who had been carefully watching the rehabilitation of their war-torn city under the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), an ad hoc inter-agency body which the appointee also heads.

The livestreamed hearing of the CA was interrupted towards the end due to a technical glitch but information from the Office of Senator Francis Tolentino, who presided the hearing, said the deliberation was suspended because more queries are still lined up for Del Rosario to answer.

The Housing chief is scheduled to face the CA again next week.

During Wednesday's hearing, Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra strongly supported Del Rosario's appointment despite other Maranaos' grievances on alleged delays in rehabilitation efforts.

Senator Panfilo Lacson warned Del Rosario last week that the deliberation of his appointment is at a very crucial stage since it has been bypassed thrice already.

"You have been bypassed three times already, not your fault ha, March 12, March 23, June 5, all in this year 2020 and under Section 25 of the new rules of CA, a nomination or appointment which has been bypassed three times shall be reported out," Lacson said.

"So this confirmation hearing under this committee is very crucial because whether we like it or not there will be no more bypass, there is no fourth bypass. The committee has to report to the commission proper and we will have to vote to confirm or deny your appointment," he added.—AOL, GMA News
