Eleazar vows: Police presence in tourist spots won’t spoil the fun
Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday promised that the presence of police personnel monitoring tourist spots won't be a disturbance to visitors enjoying their vacation.
Interviewed on GMA Network’s Unang Hirit, Eleazar said that the police will only assist tourists and remind them to observe minimum health protocols in light of the COVID-19 threat.
“Ang role ng ating Philippine National Police (PNP) ay magbantay para siguraduhin na magiging maayos,” he said.
“Hindi po sila makakagambala sa pagre-relax, pag-e-enjoy ng ating turista, kung hindi sila po ay nandun para tulungan pa nga sila at i-assist sila.”
Eleazar said PNP chief Police General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan ordered unit commanders to coordinate with local governments especially those with tourist spots.
Boracay and Baguio City have already opened their borders for tourists.
Starting on Thursday, Boracay will welcome visitors again from areas under general community quarantine, while Baguio City will accommodate tourists from the Ilocos Region.
Bohol province might also welcome tourists again this October, according to Malacañang. —LBG, GMA News
