Over 200k families affected by Typhoon Quinta in Bicol Region


More than 200,000 families were affected by Typhoon Quinta in Bicol Region, according to the Office of Civil Defense in Region V on Monday.

In its situation report, the Office of Civil Defense V said there were 217,058 families or 859,169 individuals affected from 743 barangays.

There are 20,595 families or 73, 374 individuals temporarily sheltered in 618 evacuation centers in Bicol.

At least 8,684 families or 38,599 persons are displaced outside evacuation centers and are staying at private houses.

Three individuals from Panganiban and four from Gigmoto are still missing.

As of 12 p.m. of October 26, four fishermen from Bato and one from Panganiban were already rescued.

The reported cost of damage in Sorsogon also reached a total of P26,040,000 including P1,040,000 in electrical power and P25 million in flood control.

Eighteen municipalities in Camarines Sur have reported flooding incidents, while one municipality in Camarines Norte reported a gutter-deep flooding.

A total of 521 houses in Bicol were partly damaged, while 53 were totally damaged.

In Camarines Sur, 148 houses were partly damaged and 52 were totally damaged. In Sorsogon, 373 were partly damaged, while one was totally destroyed.

Further, sea trips have resumed as of October 26, however, there are still 32 stranded passengers, 15 trucks and 8 large vehicles across ports in the region.

PAGASA earlier said Quinta is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning. -- BAP, GMA News
