Sinas gets welcome ceremony in Tuguegarao amid Ulysses flooding emergency

Philippine National Police chief Police General Debold Sinas was given welcome honors upon his arrival in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan on Saturday amid the flooding emergency due to Typhoon Ulysses. 

Sinas was met by Police Regional Office 2 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Crizaldo Nieves at the Tuguegarao City Domestic Airport, according to the Arefive Protwo Facebook page.

The PNP chief was then given a briefing by Nieves on the status of search, rescue and retrieval operations in the region as many residents were stranded and sought refuge on their rooftops due to the massive flooding.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday gave assurance the government will deploy a sufficient number of troops to assist residents in Isabela and Cagayan.

The PNP has deployed to Region 2 as of Saturday, 6 a.m. a total of 747 Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel and 1,003 Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF), presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

The release of water from Magat Dam was identified as among the causes of flooding in Cagayan and Isabela following the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses. —KG, GMA News
