Philippine COVID cases near 440k, recoveries surpassed 408k —DOH
The Philippines’ COVID-19 tally rose to 439,834 on Sunday after the Department of Health announced 1,768 new infections as 12 laboratories failed to submit reports on time.
Quezon City tallied the highest number of new cases at 112, followed by Laguna with 94, Rizal with 90, Davao City with 71, and Benguet with 69.
Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries reached 408,634 after 9,062 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease.
The DOH reports time-based recoveries every Sunday as part of “Oplan Recovery,” where asymptomatic and mild cases are re-tagged as recovered after completing 14 days of quarantine without developing symptoms.
The death toll also climbed to 8,554 with 29 new fatalities.
“Moreover, 10 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths,” the DOH added.
There are also 22,646 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.
Globally, COVID-19 has claimed over 1.5 million lives and infected more than 65.1 million people. —LBG, GMA News
