PUP student leaders twit Duterte Youth solon on 'special treatment remark'

Student leaders of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines on Wednesday went to the office of Duterte party-list Representative Ducielle Cardema to submit their opposition to the proposed termination of the Prudente-Ramos Accord.

The paper by PUP Student Regent Ellenor Bartolome and Student Council President Jonero Dacula was forwarded to the other members of the House and to the Department of National Defense in support of the House and Senate Resolutions opposing the termination of the accords and upholding the academic freedom of all educational institutions.

The Prudente-Ramos accord is the PUP's version of the UP-DND agreement which bans the entry of soldiers and police inside the campus without prior notice to university officials.

Cardema earlier urged the DND to also scrap the agreement between then Defense Secretary Fidel Ramos and then PUP president Nemesio Prudente following Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana's unilateral termination of the UP accord.

We will all fight back!"  it added.

The UP-DND and PUP-DND Accords, Cardema said, create inequality among the more than 400 campuses of various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines, as it gives "special treatment" to only two universities.

-Julia Mari Ornedo/NB, GMA News
