Duterte declares May 18 as National Higher Education Day

President Rodrigo Duterte signed a bill on Friday declaring May 18 as a special working holiday to commemorate the founding anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The president signed Republic Act 11522 which declared May 18 as the National Higher Education Day.

Under the law, both public and private heads of organizations are directed to encourage and afford sufficient time and opportunities for their students or employees to engage and participate in any kind of activity in celebration of the special working holiday.

CHED was named as the lead agency in charge of preparing and implementing annual programs.

All higher education institutions were also directed to assist the CHED in preparing the program of activities.

“All higher education institutions shall also provide full support and assistance to the preparation of the annual program of activities and events to be conducted by CHED in observance of the event pursuant to this Act,” it said.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
