Solon files reso seeking to honor legacy of Fr. Joaquin Bernas
A lawmaker filed a House resolution which seeks to honor the life and legacy of veteran constitutionalist Fr. Joaquin Bernas, one of the framers of the 1987 Constitution.
Parañaque City Representative Joy Tambunting said the resolution also aims to express profound sympathies and sincerest condolences of the lawmakers over Bernas' death.
Tambunting underscored that the country owes a debt of gratitude to Bernas for his great work as an educator, legal luminary, and spiritual guide.
"The Filipino people will always be grateful to Father Bernas for the pivotal role he played in shaping our Constitution, law, and jurisprudence," the lawmaker said in the resolution.
"The demise of Fr. Bernas is a great loss to his friends, family, former colleagues, students, the legal community and the Filipino people as a whole," she added.
Bernas, 88, passed away last Saturday.
He became dean emeritus of the Ateneo Law School in 2004 and belonged to the 1986 Constitutional Commission that drafted the 1987 Constitution.
The Senate on Monday adopted a resolution honoring Bernas. —AOL, GMA News
