FDA warns vs. use of Lip & Cheek Stain Night Berry; Ever Bilena clarifies
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public from purchasing and using Ever Bilena's EB Lip & Cheek Stain Night Berry, which it said contained too much microbial contaminants.
In an advisory, FDA said based on the test it conducted, the volume of the product's microbial contaminants is beyond the 1000 cfu/g limit set by the agency "and as published in the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive (ACD)."
"The aforementioned adulterated product is found to be non-compliant with the existing standards, and, thus, pose potential hazards to the consuming public," the FDA said.
"The use of adulterated cosmetic products may result to adverse reactions, including but not limited to, skin irritation, itchiness, anaplylactic shock and organ failure."
In a statement, Ever Bilena said it is doing its own internal testing to validate FDA's findings and "results should be out in 7 days."
"Simultaneously, we are also engaging with a 3rd party lab for their findings," it added.
Ever Bilena also said the FDA advisory only affects batch #19A03QW of Lip & Cheek Stain Night Berry variant.
"We would like to inform everyone that all of our products go through quality control before they are go signaled for distribution to the market," the company said.
It added that its products are subjected to microbial testing prior to release to trade and assured the public that "[e]verything released from warehouse are FDA compliant."
"All EB products go through microbial tests before these are released to the market. Thus, we are still consulting with FDA as to where they purchased the item, and double checking through internal and 3rd party lab testing to verify how FDA came about with the result," it said. —KBK, GMA News
