House records 277 COVID infections since 2020, 43 are active —Sec Gen
The House of Representatives on Tuesday reported 43 active COVID-19 cases, Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza said.
In a virtual interview with reporters, Mendoza said since last year, the lower chamber of Congress had recorded 277 COVID-19 infections among members and employees, with 227 recoveries and seven fatalities.
Most of the active infections are staff and personnel of the House of Representatives.
"Iba-ibang offices nanggaling 'yung mga active cases natin ngayon, iba ibang offices kaya isang dahilan bakit nag-shutdown tayo," Mendoza said.
The House of Representatives suspended work operations from Tuesday to Wednesday amid the increasing COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila.
Committee meetings will be conducted via Zoom as directed by House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, Mendoza said.
The plenary session, meanwhile, will resume on Thursday morning.
According to Mendoza, regular disinfection will continue even during the Lenten season.
"Weekly naman mayroong tayong disinfection na ginagawa sa House. Sa Holy Week naman wala na tayong pasok... ang balik natin after Holy Week na during duration ng break na 'yan, ng Holy Week, tuloy-tuloy din naman 'yung disinfection natin na gagawin," Mendoza said.—AOL, GMA News
