PCG records 41,311 outbound passengers on Maundy Thursday
A total of 41,311 outbound passengers and 38,104 inbound passengers were recorded in all ports in the country on Maundy Thursday, the Philippine Coast Guard said on Friday.
Compared to the report on Holy Wednesday, the Coast Guard said the number of outbound passengers decreased by 15,516 while the inbounds dropped by 4,763.
Frontline personnel in 15 PCG districts inspected 688 vessels and 747 motorbancas.
Philippine Coast Guard’s districts, stations, and sub-stations are on "heightened alert" to manage the influx of port passengers during the Holy Week from March 28 to April 3, and the summer vacation period.
PCG expects local tourists to travel by sea for recreational purposes until May 31.
From 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, a total of 1,933 PCG personnel have been deployed and inspected 100 vessels and 21 motorbancas, as well as monitored over 7,000 passengers in all ports nationwide.
“Aside from upholding maritime security and maritime safety, the PCG also assists in the strict implementation of health protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Coast Guard added.
The riding public is advised to coordinate with the PCG through its official Facebook page or the Coast Guard Public Affairs (0927-560-7729) for their concerns on sea travel protocols.
Earlier, Coast Guard Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. said they are expecting more passengers in ports after the implementation of travel restrictions in Metro Manila and four nearby provinces.
These areas are under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until April 4. —LBG, GMA News
