Barangay official in Navotas shot dead during flag ceremony - report
A flag ceremony turned bloody in a village in Navotas City after unidentified men shot dead a village chairman early Monday morning. Radio dzBB reported that Navotas City mayor Tobias "Toby" Tiangco had already offered a P200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the killers of Rolando "Popoy" San Juan. San Juan, a father of two, was chairman of Bangkulasi village in Navotas City. Citing initial testimonies from witnesses, police said the suspects called out the victim's name before shooting him on the head and the right side of the chest. Police recovered two cal-.45 shells from the crime scene. Initial investigation showed the incident took place in front of the village hall at about 8 a.m. during the Monday morning flag ceremony. Police said they are having initial difficulty finding witnesses who could have seen the three suspects, who reportedly escaped on a motorcycle.
