Duterte signs bills creating new districts in Caloocan, Bulacan into law
President Rodrigo Duterte has signed measures creating three additional districts less than a year before the 2022 elections.
Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) 11545 breaking the first legislative district of Caloocan City to first and third legislative districts, and RA 11546, which reapportioned Bulacan province to six legislative districts from previous four districts.
Each legislative district would mean electing a representative for each district in the House of Representatives in the May 2022 elections, increasing the House members in the process.
The law provides that the first district of Caloocan covers Barangays 1 to 4, 77 to 85, and 132 to 137.
Caloocan’s third legislative district, on the other hand, is composed of Barangays 178 to 188.
Bulacan’s first district will be composed of Calumpit, Hagonoy, Paombong, Pulilan, Bulakan and Malolos, while the second district will cover Baliuag, Bustos and Plaridel.
The third district covers San Ildefonso, San Miguel, San Rafael and Doña Remedios Trininad, while the fourth distict will include Obando, Marilao and Meycauyayan city.
The fifth district will cover Guiguinto, Balagtas, Pandi and Bocaue, while the sixth district will have Sta. Maria, Norzagaray and Angat.
The measure providing additional districts in Caloocan city and Bulacan province was approved by the President last May 28 and May 26, respectively, according o Malacañang on Thursday. —KBK, GMA News
