Eleazar honors policemen killed, wounded in action in Occidental Mindoro

The Philippine National Police on Saturday honored policemen who were wounded and killed in action during a clash with suspected communist rebels in Occidental Mindoro on Friday.

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar personally went to Occidental Mindoro together with other police officials and first visited the wake for the slain policemen.

Eleazar handed over to surviving relatives the medals and commendation for the victims as well as financial assistance as he expressed condolences.

He also went to the hospital to meet the injured policemen and gave them medals for their bravery.

Eleazar vowed to help achieve justice for victims.

The PNP chief also went to the Occidental Mindoro Police Provincial Office to meet with police and military officials based in the province. 

The Occidental Mindoro Provincial Mobile Force Company on Friday morning had an encounter with an undetermined number of suspected communist gunmen in Sitio Banban in Barangay San Nicolas, Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro.

Three policemen were killed while six others were hurt in the clash.

The police also identified the suspects as gunmen belonging to the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Mark Anthony Velasco (KLG MAV). —Peewee Bacuño/KG, GMA News
