NDRRMC: 6 dead, 3 missing due to Tropical Storm Dante
The total fatalities due to Tropical Storm Dante has climbed to six while three people remain missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's (NDRRMC) said on Friday.
In its latest report, the NDRRMC said the dead and the missing people were reported in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Davao, and Soccsksargen regions.
One of the fatalities was a one-year-old boy who died of suffocation due to mud and debris in Panoraon, Davao de Oro. A 71-year-old man also died in a flashflood in Malalag, Davao del Sur.
The other fatality was a 14-year-old girl in Norala, South Cotabato, whose cause of death is still being determined.
According to the NDRRMC, the latest reported fatality was a 55-year-old male from Norala. His body was recovered on Wednesday.
A 49-year-old man also in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental also died after being swept by flashflood.
Meanwhile, the sixth casualty was a 51-year-old man who was swept by flood as he attempted to get his carabao in Dumanjug, Cebu.
Two children aged two and seven years old were missing after being drifted by flood in Calubian, Leyte. Also, a man in his 40's was still missing.
According to the NDRRMC, the search and rescue operation is ongoing for the missing persons.
A total of 4,439 persons or 16,680 families were affected by Dante in 177 barangays in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Davao, Soccsksargen, and Caraga regions.
Of which, 12,071 persons or 3,090 families were staying in 104 evacuation centers.
At least 12 houses were damaged in Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Davao regions which include nine partially damaged and three totally damaged homes.
A total of 23 road sections and four bridges were affected in Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Davao, Soccsksargen and Caraga regions. Of which, two roads and three bridges are still not passable.
Power interruptions were experienced in 18 provinces in Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga regions, the NDRRMC said.
Work and class were suspended in 14 provinces and a city in Ilocos, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, eight flights in Caticlan, Antique, and Surigao were cancelled. At least 24 sea trips were canceled in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Caraga regions.
A total of 2,085 passengers, 691 rolling cargoes, and 46 vessels were stranded in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga regions.
Due to Dante, more than P14.6 million of damage in agriculture was reported in Soccsksargen and Caraga regions, affecting 723 farmers with 220 metric tons of production. Rice and corn were the affected commodities.
More than P53.7 worth of damage in infrastructures were reported in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, and Soccsksargen. — RSJ, GMA News
