Ex-president Arroyo expresses sympathy on Noynoy Aquino’s death: He will be remembered

Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo joined the nation in mourning the passing of her successor, Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.

In a statement, Arroyo said Aquino would be remembered not just because of his achievements but because of being part of a well-known political family that made a legacy in the Philippine history.

"My family and I join the Filipino people in prayers and sympathy on the passing of former President Benigno Aquino III," Arroyo said.

"Aside from his own achievements, he will be remembered as part of the Aquino family that has contributed three important people to the history of our nation, Senator Ninoy Aquino and our 11th and 15th presidents, Cory and Noynoy Aquino," she added.

Aquino, 61, died this morning. There is no official statement yet from the Aquino family regarding the former president's death.

In December 2019, Aquino was confined in the intensive care unit of Makati Medical Center. However, details about his confinement were not disclosed. — Anna Felicia Bajo/ RSJ, GMA News
