Lagman says VP Leni's admission of lack of funds for presidential bid a statement to her integrity
Albay Representative Edcel Lagman on Thursday expressed belief that Vice President Leni Robredo's admission of lack of resources for a presidential bid is actually an advantage.
According to Lagman, it is a testament to Robredo's integrity and honesty of not enriching herself in public office.
"It is an opportunity for voters and citizens who believe in good and solicitous governance to rally behind a candidate who will render fealty to public service," Lagman said in a press statement.
The lawmaker said Robredo's remark about her lack of funds would encourage her old and new supporters "to contribute to a noble cause and be an instrument to her victory."
"She will emerge as the most viable alternative to a degenerate political dynasty. It provides a beacon of hope and a measure of fulfillment to the people’s aspiration for a meaningful and positive change," Lagman said.
In a recent interview on ANC, Robredo admitted that resources would be an issue if ever she will run for president this coming elections compared to her vice presidential run in 2016.
"Noon kasi iba iyong sitwasyon, I was an admin candidate. So the infrastructure was there and because I was not running for president, parang hindi ko pinroblema iyong resources because the party was there," Robredo had said.
"And you know the state of our party now, wala naman akong resources to launch a decent presidential campaign," she added.
Robredo said she wants to be ready before she decides if she will really run for president.
"Before I make that decision, gusto ko handa ako. Handa ako hindi lang—tingin ko sa trabaho matagal na akong handa at matagal nang naghahanda—pero iyong kampanya mismo, it will be difficult. It will be difficult given the current political landscape," she said.
In February, Robredo already disclosed that she was having a tough time deciding whether she should run for president in 2022 due to lack of resources.—AOL, GMA News
