Philippines logs ‘relatively low’ 13,827 new COVID-19 cases amid low lab output

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 13,827 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the country's total tally to 1,989,857.

The DOH said the "relatively low" number of cases was due to lower laboratory output on Sunday.

The slight decrease in number of cases came after the Philippines registered a record high 22,366 infections on Monday.

The new cases brought the country's active case count to 145,562, of which 95.9% are mild, 1.4% are asymptomatic, 1.1% are severe, and 0.6% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries increased to 1,810,847 after 16,759 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll rose to 33,448 with 118 new fatalities.

The DOH said 172 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 37 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been reclassified as deaths after final validation.

It said all laboratories were operational on August 29, while eight laboratories were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.—LDF, GMA News
