Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno to run again for senator in Eleksyon 2022

Human rights lawyer Jose Manuel "Chel" Diokno on Wednesday bared that he will join the senatorial race in Eleksyon 2022 days before the filing of certificate of candidacy.

On Twitter, Diokno said the inequalities in law implementation, COVID-19 response and management of the economy in the country prompted him to run again for senator.

"Yes, tatakbo ulit ako sa Senado. Napakaraming bagay ang hindi patas dito sa atin—sa batas, sa ekonomiya, sa mga patakaran sa COVID. Gawin nating mas makatarungan ang buhay ng mga Pilipino," Diokno wrote.

(Yes, I will run again for Senate. There are many inequalities in the country, our laws, economy as well as COVID-19 response. Let's make a more righteous life for Filipinos.)

So far, from the opposition, Diokno is the first to formally announce his decision for 2022 national and local elections.

Diokno first joined the senatorial elections in 2019, under the opposition's senatorial slate Otso Diresto.

He said the 2019 loss will be a learning experience.

Diokno is the founding dean of De La Salle College of Law and the chairman of the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG), a nationwide human rights lawyers organization that is advocating against political repression, military and police abuses, and extra-judicial killings, among others.—LDF, GMA News
