2 more cops die due to COVID-19 bringing PNP death toll to 121

The death toll due to COVID-19 among the personnel of the Philippine National Police has climbed to 121 as two more cops died due to the disease as of Thursday.

In a statement, the PNP identified the 120th fatality as a 31-year-old police corporal assigned to a municipal police station in Calabarzon who died on October 6 at the Philippine General Hospital.

The cop, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, tested positive for COVID-19 infection on September 24.

Meanwhile, the 121st fatality was identified as a police executive master sergeant assigned to a police station in Metro Manila.

He died on October 5 at the National Kidney Transplant Institute due to COVID -19 and critical pneumonia, according to the PNP.

The cop was diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney disease associated with hyperkalemia and hypertension.

He was tested positive for COVID-19 on September 28.

Eleazar extended his condolences to the families of the deceased cops and assured them of assistance from the police organization.

As of Thursday, the PNP has recorded a total of 40,548 COVID-19 cases with 94 new infections. According to the PNP, 38,700 have already recovered from the disease while 1,727 are still active cases.

Eleazar noted a decrease of 21.31% in active cases over the past 13 days.

At least 182,594 or 82.04% of PNP personnel  are now fully vaccinated while 34,286 or 15.41%  are waiting for their second doses. Around 5,680 or 2.55% are still unvaccinated.—AOL, GMA News
