Philippines reports 7,625 new COVID-19 cases; active tally now 78K
The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 7,625 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, marking the fifth consecutive day where less than 10,000 cases were reported.
According to the DOH, this brought the nationwide tally to 2,705,792.
Meanwhile, the country’s active cases slightly decreased to 78,999, the lowest since August 10.
Of this, 80.6% are mild, 6.4% are asymptomatic, 3.9% are severe, and 1.7% are in critical condition.
The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 2,586,369 with 13,363 new ones while 203 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 40,424.
Three laboratories failed to submit data on time.
Sixty-five duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count while 109 cases that were previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths.
Data also showed that 66% of the 4,300 ICU beds nationwide are in use while 64% of the total 1,500 ICU beds in the National Capital Region are occupied.
Meanwhile, 49% of the 15,000 ward beds in the Philippines are being utilized while 46% of the 4,300 ward beds in NCR are in use.
The DOH earlier said the Philippines is already planning to give immunocompromised individuals their third vaccine dose against COVID-19.—LDF, GMA News
