PITX backs allowing 100% capacity for PUVs in NCR but with fully vaxxed passengers only
The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange expressed support Thursday on the move to allow 100% capacity for public utility vehicles in Metro Manila but only with fully vaccinated passengers.
“Kung ito po ‘yung magiging batayan, sang-ayon po tayo kahit papaano na taasan na po nila 'yung capacity ng mga pampublikong sasakyan,” PITX corporate affairs and government relations head Jason Salvador said at the Laging Handa briefing.
(If this is going to be the basis, we agree to at least expand the capacity of public vehicles.)
Salvador lamented that many passengers were stranded on the road because of the limited capacity allowed for PUVs.
Aside from this, he said that the continuous fuel price hikes have affected the income of the PUV drivers and operators.
On Tuesday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it is ready to defend its proposal to increase the passenger capacity to 100% in public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Metro Manila.
At a Senate hearing on Monday, the DOTr revealed that it is seeking the approval of the Inter-Agency Task for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to increase the passenger capacity in PUVs.
“We are ready to defend our position to the IATF this coming Thursday because we know that we need to propose this to the IATF as this is not only a matter of public transportation but also a matter of public health,” DOTr Assistant Secretary Mark Steven Pastor told the senators present in the hearing.—AOL, GMA News
