Philippines reports 2,646 new COVID-19 cases; positivity rate below 5%
The Philippines logged on Wednesday 2,646 fresh COVID-19 infections, increasing the total caseload to 2,809,311.
According to Department of Health's (DOH) data, the number of new cases was the lowest since February 26, 2021, which recorded 2,651 fresh infections.
Moreover, the active case tally was at 29,138, the lowest since February 9, with 29,167 active infections.
Of the 29,138, 60.8% were mild, 7.0% were asymptomatic, 17.36%% were moderate, 10.4% were severe, and 4.4% were in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the nation's fatality tally rose to 44,665, including 99 new deaths.
A total of 4,029 more patients survived the severe respiratory disease, increasing the total recoveries to 2,735,508.
Also, the positivity rate of the country went down to 4.3%, the lowest since February 1, 2021, which registered a 4.4% positivity rate.
A positivity rate of less than 5% was recommended by the World Health Organization in May 2020. If the positivity rate is at 5% or higher, it means there is high virus transmission.
The DOH also revealed that 42% of the country's intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied while 32% of the isolation beds are in use.
In Metro Manila, 40% of the ICU beds are utilized while 26% isolation beds are in use.
Non-reporting labs
The nation's health department indicated that seven laboratories did not submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
Based on data in the last 14 days, these labs contribute, on average, 15.2% of samples tested and 5.1% of positive individuals.
Further, DOH deleted 29 duplicates, including 20 recoveries and one death, from the country's total case count.
