IATF decision on face shield use awaiting Duterte's nod –Roque

President Rodrigo Duterte has not approved yet the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for COVID-19 response on the wearing of face shield requirement.

"Meron na pong desisyon (a decision has been made)," presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said a day after the meeting of the IATF.

"Pero ito po ay for approval and possibly for announcement by the President himself (But this is still for approval)," he added.

Metro Manila mayors and a number of local executives, including the President's daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, already ditched the face shield requirement amid declining number of COVID-19 cases nationwide.

Earlier, Roque warned mayors against defying the IATF policy on wearing of face shield, saying the IATF's decision is the President's decision, too, and mayors will be encouraging civil disobedience with such defiance.

In a media briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said they presented their recommendation to the IATF on Thursday.

“We were able to present yesterday ang ating mga rekomendasyon sa ating IATF. Meron na rin po silang desisyon but it will be the Office of the President to decide first and it will be announced by the Office of the President,” she said. —with a report from Joahna Lei Casilao/LBG, GMA News
