Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Saturday withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president in the May 2022 elections.
Dela Rosa went to the Commission on Elections' main office in Manila to formalize the withdrawal.
"It's a party decision nga. I was ordered by the party to withdraw, so I had to withdraw," the senator explained in a 24 Oras Weekend report.
Dela Rosa had earlier said he was ready to be substituted and give way to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte if the latter decides to run for president in the upcoming elections.
He even visited the mayor at her office in Davao late last month to offer the PDP-Laban standard bearer slot.
Duterte, however, filed her COC on Saturday for vice president under the Lakas-CMD party as a substitute for Lyle Uy, who withdrew his candidacy for the second highest position in the government. — VBL, GMA News
