CJ Gesmundo urges public to be generous amid pandemic

As the Philippines continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo on Wednesday urged the public to exercise generosity, saying this will allow them to become closer to Jesus Christ.

“[W]hen you become generous with your capacity to be generous with your time, talent, treasure, especially in times that we are experiencing now in this pandemic, you become more like Jesus,” Gesmundo said at the Philippine National Prayer Breakfast.

“Why? Because Jesus is the most generous person that ever lived. Jesus is a giver. Why am I becoming more like Jesus? Because giving is the essence of God,” he added.

Gesmundo said being generous is similar to investing in the “eternal home.”

“When I give my time, money, energy, whatever I invest in my eternal home, Jesus called this principle, storing up treasure in heaven,” he said.

He also urged the public to keep faith when experiencing disappointment in life despite living in a world where “promises are broken left and right.”

“You hear broken political promises, broken business promises, even broken promises to yourself like your new year resolution,” he said.

“When life lets you down, hold on to God’s promises. when God makes a promise, he keeps it. He has never broken a promise and never will,” he later added.

Meanwhile, medical and non-medial frontliners, Filipino families, the branches of government, and the upcoming national election were also prayed for during the event.

“We thank you for the life of the frontliners who are risking their own health just to take care, protect, and serve the community. Protect Lord, our medical frontline workers, our modern heroes, from being infected or from any other sickness,” Bro. Gil Garcia said.

Garcia also called on the government to expedite all benefits to healthcare workers.

“Father, we sincerely ask the government to expedite the benefit to them. We provide our frontliners with everything they need both for the people they serve and the loved ones,” he said. — RSJ, GMA News
