Robredo: Taking drug test on schedule is self-serving

Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday said having a scheduled drug test is self-serving.

Robredo made the response when asked if she would also submit herself to a drug test to prove she is not using illegal substances like fellow 2022 election aspirants Senator Panfilo Lacson, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, and former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.

Senator Manny Pacquiao also submitted the negative drug test result prior to his last professional boxing fight last August, while Manila Mayor Isko Moreno asked the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to conduct a drug test on him.

"Ako, anytime naman pero sa akin kasi...dapat sana iyong pagpapa-drug test random—unannounced. Unannounced kasi alam naman natin na mas maigi na random, mas maigi na unannounced para nakukuha mo kung ano talaga iyong tunay na sitwasyon (I am okay with it anytime, but it should be random, unannounced to show the real score)," Robredo said in an interview in Bulacan.

"So parang self-serving kasi kung magsa-submit ako for a drug test. Pero anytime na may lumapit sa akin na mag-request na mag-undergo ako, go ako anytime (It would be self-serving if I would submit to a scheduled drug test. But anytime somebody decides to approach me and requests that I undergo a drug test, I will do so anytime)," she added.

Robredo said that the random drug test can be done either by a public or private institution as long as that facility is reputable.

The 2022 aspirants made the move of subjecting themselves to a drug test after President Rodrigo Duterte warned the public against voting  for a presidential candidate who is addicted to cocaine.
