Philippines' 975 new COVID-19 cases bring active tally to 17K

The Philippines on Thursday recorded 975 new COVID-19 cases, bringing down the active infections to 17,796.

This, as two laboratories were not operational on November 23, while three laboratories were not able to submit their data on time.

According to the Department of Health, with these numbers, the country's total caseload now stands at 2,829,618.

Of the 17,796 active cases, 52.7% are mild, 5.4% are asymptomatic, 14.4% are severe, and 6% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries increased to 2,763,947 after 1,029 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll climbed to 47,875 with 193 new fatalities.

The country's positivity rate was at 2.8%. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 38,961.

The DOH noted that 17 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while181 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Latest data from the DOH also showed that 30% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 19% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 29% of the ICU beds are utilized, while 21% of the ventilators are in use.—LDF, GMA News
