PNP, Comelec open application for exemption on gun ban, security detail


The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced Wednesday that it has started to accept the applications for gun ban exemption as well as the recall of security detail as Eleksyon 2022 approaches.

In a statement, the PNP said it started accepting applications for the issuance of the Certification of Authority (CA) until May 25, 2022.

The PNP said the filing of application may be done online through the Commission on Election’s official website www.comelec.gov.ph. and requirements are as follows:

  • CBFSC Form No. 2022-06 downloadable at COMELEC website
  • 2x2 photograph
  • Threat assessment
  • CBFSC Form No. 2022A-06DA (Certified by the concerned government agency

“The PNP will assist in the issuance of threat assessment and will endorse the approval to grant to application, through the Joint Security and Control Center (JSCC),  if it is deemed urgent and necessary,” said PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos.

Comelec recently issued Resolution No. 10728 which states the prohibition on unauthorized firearms and bodyguards ahead of the election period.

The resolution bans bearing, carrying or transporting firearms or deadly weapons outside residence or place of business and in all public places from January 9 to June 8, 2022 or for a total of 150 calendar days.

According to the PNP, all political aspirants will be informed through a letter that their security detail will be recalled, while all recalled police security detail will undergo the VIP Security and Protection Refresher Course.

Exempted from the recall of security detail are government officials including; President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Secretary of National Defense, Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, Chairman and Commissioners of COMELEC, Chief of Staff, AFP, AFP Major Service Commanders, Chief, PNP and Senior Officers of the PNP. — Jamil Santos/RSJ, GMA News
