PNP to work with Comelec in removing campaign materials

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it will coordinate with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to remove campaign materials upon the request of public officials or candidates.

In a statement, PNP chief General Dionardo Carlos assured that the police organization will be neutral when they assist in taking down such election-related materials.

“If there is a go signal from the COMELEC and the DILG, then we will assist in the removal of these materials,” he said.

“We just wanted to maintain our neutrality, so in every crucial action there must have the authority of the COMELEC,” he added.

Carlos made the statement after Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto ordered the removal of election-related materials on public property.

The PNP pointed out that it is aware of the presence of campaign materials in public places. The Comelec has set guidelines regarding the posting of such materials, the PNP said.

“One thing is for sure, we won’t allow these campaign materials to be posted on police stations and offices. The PNP will immediately order the removal of such,” Carlos said. —KG, GMA News
