DepEd to its officers, personnel: Refrain from partisan political activities

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday reminded its officers, teachers, and non-teaching personnel to avoid engaging in partisan political activities ahead of the May 2022 polls.

The DepEd, citing the Constitution in accordance with the rules of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), said government officials and employees are prohibited from engaging in any electioneering and partisan political activity.

The department added that this would ensure employees to focus on public service and shield them from the “unpredictability” of politics.

“Guided by these policies, we call on our personnel and stakeholders to champion a clean, safe, and fair elections in 2022, for our children and for the future of this nation,” the DepEd said.

The lists of prohibited acts and activities are stated in the DepEd Order No. 48, series of 2018 Prohibition on Electioneering and Partisan Political Activity and its attached CSC Resolution.

The CSC earlier warned that it will impose sanctions on government workers who engage in partisan political activities.

Those who will be found guilty of engaging directly or indirectly in partisan political activities will be meted with the penalty of one month and one day suspension to six months for the first offense; and dismissal from the service for the second offense, according to the commission. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
