DILG to release memorandum for pre-election campaign activities

The Department of the Interior and Local Government is set to issue a memorandum circular regarding pre-election campaign activities, its spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said Wednesday.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Malaya was asked about alleged disregard of COVID-19 health protocols such as social distancing during activities organized by some 2022 election aspirants.

“Si Secretary Eduardo Año po ay maglalabas ng memorandum circular tungkol sa mga pre-election campaign activities at papaano makakuha ng permits para sa mga activities na ito,” he said.

He warned that the organizer and the aspirant will be accountable if they hold a gathering without permit from concerned local government units.

Malaya also pointed out that the aspirants and their organizers should be the ones ensuring the compliance to COVID-19 protocols in their events.

Aside from them, he added that the local government units and the police also have the responsibility to enforce minimum public health standards. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
