2 more party-list groups denied accreditation secure TRO from SC

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a stay order prohibiting the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from enforcing its decision to bar two party-list groups from participating in the May 2022 polls.

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo issued the temporary restraining order (TRO) in favor of Mindanao Indigenous Peoples Conference for Peace and Development and the Lingkud Bayanihan Party.

The SC said that both groups' petitions appear to be sufficient in form and substance.

It also gave the Comelec 10 days to respond to the petitions after receiving the notice.

Similar TRO petitions filed by Ang Tinig ng Seniors, Igorot Warriors International and Alliance for Resilience, and Sustainability and Empowerment were earlier granted by the SC.

A raffle was held by the Comelec on December 14 to determine the order of the accredited party-list groups on the ballot. — Joahna Lei Casilao/VBL, GMA News
