Robredo camp sees 2-way race with Marcos Jr. for presidency in Eleksyon 2022

The 2022 presidential race will be a two-way race between Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr., the spokesman of the vice president said on Wednesday.

Ibarra Gutierrez III issued the statement after the latest Pulse Asia survey results showed Robredo with 20 percentage points placing second to Marcos who had  53 percentage points.

The poll results released on Wednesday were the first since the period of filing certificates of candidacy (COC).

"The 12-point jump in Vice President Leni's numbers, which more than doubles her results from the last survey, is definitive affirmation of the energy and momentum of the people's campaign that emerged following her declaration of candidacy on October 7," Gutierrez said in a statement.

"2022 is now clearly a Robredo versus Marcos contest. We are confident that in the next four months, Vice President Leni's consistent, hands-on leadership and the enthusiastic efforts of our volunteers, will continue to broaden and increase her support," he  added.

Gutierrez expressed confidence in Robredo's chances of winning the presidency in Eleksyon 2022.

"Simula pa lang ito. Ipapanalo natin ito (This is just the beginning. We will win this fight)," he added.Gutierrez said.

Tied for third place in the Pulse Asia survey were Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Senator Manny Pacquiao who both had eight percentage points.

Ernest Ramel, Moreno's party mate in Aksyon Demokratiko, said the party was thankful that many still consider Moreno in the presidential race.

He said the party would strive even more in convincing people to support the Manila mayor.

"Masyado pang maaga, di pa nagsisimula ang official campaign period, at marami pang maaaring mangyari," Ramel said in a statement.

[It's too early and the official campaign period has not even started yet.  A lot of things could still happen.]

"Naniniwala kami na ang Aksyon Demokratiko standard bearer na si Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso ang siyang mananaig sa huli dahil napatunayan na siya ay kakayahan, track record, karanasan at tunay na puso para sa masang Pilipino," he added.

[We believe that our standard bearer will win because he has proven his capabilities, track record, and experiences in serving the general public.]

Senator Panfilo Lacson was in fourth place with six percentage points, while retired General Antonio Parlade Jr., Labor leader Leody de Guzman, and former National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales all scored less than 1%. —NB, GMA News
