SWS says more Filipinos expected happy Christmas in 2021

More Filipinos expected a happy Christmas in 2021 more than a year after the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, results of the latest Social Weather Stations poll have shown.

According to the survey conducted from December 12 to 16, 65% of adult Filipinos expected Christmas in 2021 to be happy. Eight percent expected it to be sad while 22% expected it to be neither.

SWS pointed out that the 65% who expected a happy Christmas were more than the 50% who did in 2020 but less than the 79% who did two years ago in 2019 before the COVID-19 scourge.

The eight percent who expected a sad Christmas was seven points below the record-high 15% in 2020.

"The expectation of a happy Christmas was a record-high 82% when first surveyed by SWS in 2002," the SWS said.

"It declined to 77% in 2003 and to a 62-69% range from 2004 to 2013 before it improved to 71% in 2014 and 79% in 2019. It dropped to a record-low 50% in 2020 before rising to 65% in 2021,"it added. —NB, GMA News
