587,800 Moderna vaccine doses donated by Germany arrive

More than 500,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the country on Monday afternoon.

The 587,800 doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 past 4 p.m.

The additional vaccine supply was donated by the German government and coursed through the global vaccine-sharing COVAX facility.

Alexander Schmidt, deputy head of mission of the German Embassy, said that this shipment brings the total of vaccine doses donated by Germany to the Philippines to 11 million.

"I just want to say that 2021 was a difficult year for all of us, but we have seen that the fight against the virus is not a short sprint but rather a marathon. A successful vaccination campaign is the best chance that we have, and we need to work together in this," he said.

The Philippines has so far administered 105,412,678 vaccine doses.

At least 47 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, at least 1.3 million individuals have received their booster shots.

The country has so far recorded 2,838,792 COVID-19 cases, including 2,778,002 recoveries and 51,211 deaths. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
