85% transmission facilities in Odette-stricken areas revived - DOE
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) had restored 85% of transmission facilities that were adversely affected by Typhoon Odette, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Monday.
In President Rodrigo Duterte's Talk to the People, Cusi reported that 81 out 95 damaged transmission lines were revived.
As for Small Power Utility Groups (SPUG), Cusi said 64 out of 87 or 74% power plants in SPUG facilities were also already fully restored.
Meanwhile, Cusi also reported the status of several power plants in typhoon-hit regions:
REGION 6 (Panay-Negros Occ.)
- On-Grid Capacity Available: 203 out of 275.5 MW (74%)
REGION 7 (Negros Or.-Cebu-Bohol)
- On-Grid Capacity Available: 160.6 out of 1,168.43 MW (14%)
REGION 8 (Leyte-Samar)
- On-Grid Capacity Available: 126.5 out of 187.96 MW (67%)
REGION 10 (Northern Mindanao)
- On-Grid Capacity Available: 23.5 out of 96.4 MW (24%)
CARAGA
- On-Grid Capacity Available: 7.8 out of 7.8 MW (100%)
Earlier, authorities voiced hope that power will be fully restored by February 2022.
"'Yan po ang ano pinapakita sa scenario, aabot ang February bago makabalik ang serbisyo. Ang rinig ko sa lalong madaling panahon makabalik ang serbisyo para bago dumating ang bagong taon o sa Enero pa lang ma-enjoy ng kababayan natin ang serbisyo ng kuryente," said National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson Mark Timbal.
The Department of Energy on Saturday assured the public that power supply, shut down by Typhoon Odette in some areas of the Visayas and Mindanao, will be completely restored before the May 9, 2022 elections.
