Locsin says Odette foreign relief will be ‘efficiently distributed’

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said Wednesday that the government is aiming for the efficient distribution of foreign donations and relief assistance to those severely affected by Typhoon Odette, which devastated parts of Visayas and Mindanao earlier this month.

"This kind of generosity will continue and we are doing our best here to make sure that the relief is efficiently distributed," Locsin said during a presser at the Department of Foreign Affairs where he was asked if the Philippines will expect more help from other countries.

He also disclosed that the following international organizations and nations have rendered cash aid for more than 4 million Odette victims:

  • Australia
  • United States
  • Canada
  • European Union
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Singapore
  • Israel
  • New Zealand
  • World Health Organization
  • Korea
  • United Kingdom
  • United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
  • United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Central Emergency Response Fund
  • Qatar

The Duterte administration has also allotted P10 billion to uplift the lives of those stricken by the super typhoon.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Wednesday said it has confirmed 64 fatalities from Odette's wrath, and is working to verify another 334 deaths. — BM, GMA News
