2.7 million US-donated Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine doses arrive

The Philippines on Sunday received another 2.7 million doses of vaccines donated by the United States through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility.

A total of 2,703,870 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived in Manila past 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. This brings the total number of vaccines delivered to the Philippines at 213,487,520.

Latest data available from the health department indicates that the country has so far administered a total of 110.089 million doses as of January 4, 2022. This includes 57.254 million first doses, 50.627 million full vaccinations, and 2.207 million booster doses.

To recall, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) approved the country’s participation in the facility in July 2020.

The objective of the COVAX facility is to deliver safe and effective vaccines to all participating countries, with doses made available based on country need, vulnerability, and COVID-19 threat.

The Philippines on Saturday, January 8, reported a record-high daily tally of 26,458 cases. This brought the active cases up to 102,017, and the total caseload to 2.936 million. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
