Granular lockdown areas nationwide rose to 170 from 116 — PNP


The number of areas under granular lockdown in the country has climbed to 170 from 116, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

Based on PNP data as of Tuesday, 94 areas under lockdown were reported from the National Capital Region (NCR); 57 from Cagayan; 13 from Ilocos; five from Mimaropa; and one from Cordillera.

At least 702 people were affected by the granular lockdowns.

A total of 217 PNP personnel and 274 force multipliers have been deployed to ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards in the locked down areas.

Granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections, according to officials.

On Tuesday, the Philippines' COVID-19 case count surpassed three million with 28,007 new infections, bringing the country's tally to 3,026,473. The active cases rose to 181,016. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
