President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Major General Ernesto Torres Jr. and Rear Admiral Alberto Carlos as the new chiefs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines' Northern Luzon Command and Western Command, respectively.

The appointments were confirmed by Malacañang on Tuesday.

"We wish both officers all the best in their new tours of duty, and we are confident that they will continue to perform their mandate to serve our people and to secure our nation with professionalism, integrity, and dedicated service," acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles said in a statement.

Carlos is a former fleet commander of the Philippine Fleet based in Cavite City.
He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1989, with a degree in computer science, according to the Philippine Fleet.
